I have made a play pool for Dinni, something he can dig around in. originally I wanted to fill it all with little paper balls, but that would take for ever, so i filled it up with cut paper and larger sheets. He likes it. He likes having his own play space. See more pictures including some elaborate cardboard mosaics here.
I made Dinni a cat tree, it also doubles up as our Christmas tree. I wanted the tree to be as free-standing as I could make it, so I made the trunk pretty much solid cardboard and wedged it under the ceiling. I was surprised how strong it was and it only wobbles a little. The problem with it is that I didn’t plan it out, and therefore some of the higher platforms are hard to climb up to.
Dinni just isn’t a tree climbing kind of cat, He's more of a bush dweller, which gives me an idea for his next construction.
see more pictures of the tree here.
Dinni's name at the moment
boully
I designed this new cardboard cat tower with moving parts, giving Dinni alternative movement around the tower. some stepping planks that can be pulled out, ramps, sliding windows and some storage draws for his toys.
the initial idea was to create a wall type structure for Dinni to climb up, I missed a good photo opportunity of Dinni clinging on to the tower trying to reach the top window, so you will have to imagine it.
See more pictures and a video here.
Made some models/sketches of what the next tower might look like. I definitely like the idea of legs and teeth.
Time for a new Cat House.
Dinni liked his last tower. He liked being up high, surveying the room and us - but he didn’t use the stairs or the intricate walkway that I built. He just made his own way up, the quickest way.
I must confess that the last cat house I made was more for me rather than the cat. At one point, Dinni had grown a lot bigger and needed more space. A new tower was in order.
In this new tower I tried to emulate a tree a little, with platforms extruding out and tall walls he can climb up, and, of course, added flags (which he hated and tore down).
See some more pictures and a video of the tower here.
I've been looking into making cat toys that move or have a little life to them. here is a easy to make rocking toy. see more pictures, instructions of how to make it and a video of Dinni very casually playing with it here.
